Ontology Engineering Group - OEG (UPM) - COORDINATOR

Country:
Spain

UPM is the oldest and largest of the Spanish Technical Universities and covers most Engineering disciplines. The work within SemData will take place in the Ontology Engineering Group. OEG has undertaken research in semantic technologies since 1995, and is composed of researchers from the fields of Ontological Engineering, Data Integration, Semantic Web, and Semantic e-Science. It has been involved in more than 20 internationally funded projects. In addition, it has experience in holding Marie Curie Intra-European Fellowships, Marie Curie Reintegration Grants and a Marie Curie ITN (SCALUS). Finally, it has organised ten editions of the Annual Summer Schools on Ontological Engineering and the Semantic Web in Madrid.

Dr. Oscar Corcho is Associate Professor at UPM. He received the third Spanish award in computer science from the Spanish Government. He was also a Marie Curie research fellow at the University of Manchester and an R&D manager at iSOCO. His research activities include ontologies, metadata management in the Semantic Web, Real-World Internet and Semantic e-Science. He is leading UPM’s work at the PlanetData Network of Excellence, the Wf4Ever STREP project, and at the Spanish network of Linked Data. He has also participated in the HALO project (funded by Vulcan, Inc.), and several EU IST projects He has been a research visitor at SMI (Stanford University). He has been responsible for bootstrapping the PhD student research seminars at his Department, and was PhD Symposium Chair at ESWC2012. Now he is PC chair of ESWC2013.

UPM will coordinate SemData and lead WP3 on dynamicity, based on its strong expertise on semantic sensor data management. It will also contribute to WP1 on provenance, and WP4 on dissemination, exploitation and sustainability.
